What Do We Do?

Our Mission & Services

Saksham is a first-of-its-kind organization solely dedicated to protecting the rights of working-class employees (contractual basis).

Our foundation proactively works to provide legal redressal to exploited working-class employees. While both the state government of Punjab and the central government have launched multiple schemes to safeguard the rights of contractual employees, most employees are not aware of such provisions and fail to make use of governmental schemes.

We give legal representation and legal aid to "outsourced employees" whose legal rights have been exploited by contractors. We endeavor to raise the legal literacy of employees whose interests have not been protected by their organizations, ministers, or government.

EPF Scheme Protection

Both the government of India and the government of Punjab have launched multiple schemes to safeguard the rights of outsourced employees. Under the highly successful EPF scheme, a set amount from the hard-earned money of employees and employers is submitted to the EPF account. This amount is given to the employee after a certain age as a pension. The government provides a high-interest rate on EPF, and the money can also be withdrawn in case of emergencies.

ESI Health Card Benefits

The government's ambitious ESI card or health card benefits individuals with lower gross income households. As per the ESI act, the employer contributes 3.25% of the wages, and the employee contributes 0.75% of the wages to the contributory fund. The fund covers health issues or health emergencies, and millions of Indians have already benefited from this scheme.

The majority of contractors, sometimes in collusion with government officials, fail to provide EPF or ESI cards to their employees, resulting in huge losses to hard-working employees.

Every organization that manages contractual employment to governmental or nongovernmental organizations is legally obliged to offer such legal provisions to the employees. The hiring organization is also under an obligation to verify if the contractor is an EPF or ESI holder. This is important to ensure that the employees can avail of benefits from government schemes.

However, in our experience, most hired employees are not given any benefit under these provisions. Sometimes, the contractor also illegally cuts money in the name of TDS money, or attendance issues. The exploited employees who seek the redressal of their grievances end up getting wrongfully terminated.
